John Q director Nick Cassavetes has signed to take the helm of Five Dollars a Day, a drama about a son who is forced to reunite with his con artist father for a cross-country odyssey.
The project is from Fine Line Features, whose New Line Cinema parent released the Denzel Washington drama John Q in 2002.
Cassavetes also directed The Notebook, based on the best-selling Nicholas Sparks novel, which New Line will release next year.
